Eleanor Brooks is the copy editor and language reviewer at Dragon Auto Guide — the final language gate. No page goes live before she has read it, and nobody else can close that gate, including the editor who wrote the page. Her brief is narrow and strict: grammar, punctuation and terminology that stays consistent across the site — the same part carrying the same name on every page where it appears.

Why does a technical site need a language gate?

Because loose language breaks a technical page as surely as a wrong number. The house rule: a metaphor is checked like a number. If a sentence calls two models “the same car underneath” and the table beneath it lists different engines, the sentence is wrong — not colourful. Every figure of speech is checked against the facts on the page it decorates.

What is she not allowed to do?

• No changing numbers or technical claims. If a figure looks wrong, she flags it for the people whose job that is. She does not correct it herself.
• No restructuring. A page that needs rebuilding rather than polishing goes back to the editor.
• No closing any other gate. Language is her gate. Editing, technical sign-off and publication belong to other hands.
