BYD Recalls — Australia & UK
BYD’s safety-recall record is the shortest of the four brands we document: one Australian recall, on the earliest 2022 Atto 3s — and in the UK, every DVSA entry under the BYD name is a bus; passenger cars stand at zero. We state clean records as plainly as bad ones — and we flag the one recent event owners actually ask about, which is not a safety recall.
Australia — official register
| Reference | Date | Model | Cars | Issue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| REC-005579 (A11.22) | Dec 2022 | Atto 3 (2022) SC2E-2 / SC2E-4 | 703 | Two items: the rear-centre child-restraint anchorage must not be used until a minor ADR-compliance modification is done; and the front passenger airbag switch can be disengaged unintentionally — if off, that airbag will not deploy. Free inspection and rectification. |

Check your car: vehiclerecalls.gov.au · BYD’s own recall page: bydautomotive.com.au/vehicle-recall. If you own a 2022 Atto 3: check the airbag switch position today, and don’t use the rear-centre child-seat position until the fix is confirmed on your VIN.
United Kingdom
Zero DVSA recalls for BYD passenger cars — checked 21 August 2026. The archive’s BYD entries (steering-box paint contamination R/2026/003, HV-shutdown override R/2024/235, and others back to 2017) all concern BYD electric buses and Alexander Dennis bus bodies — model codes B11/B12/K8/K9/D8/Enviro. A bus recall is not your Dolphin’s problem; conflating them is how recall-checker sites scare owners. Check your own car: gov.uk/check-vehicle-recall.
The event that is not a recall
In 2026 BYD Australia offered full refunds to 1,200+ customers sold 2025-built Atto 3, Sealion 8 and Shark 6 vehicles labelled as 2026 builds. A consumer-remedy event, not a safety defect — no VIN checker will show it. If you bought one of these new in that window, your remedy runs through BYD customer care and consumer law, not the recall system.
How to read a record this clean
- One recall across four years and six models is genuinely unusual — and it is what the registers show, so it is what we publish.
- Clean recall ≠ problem-free: the Atto 3 pattern page documents what owners actually report.
- Service campaigns (like the 2022–23 steering-control-unit campaign referenced in owner communities) don’t appear in recall checkers — dealer service history by VIN is the only way to confirm them.
