MG ZS EV (2019–2021) Fluids & Capacities
✓ Technically reviewed by Daniel Wei Chen — Senior Chinese Automotive Diagnostics & Repair Specialist, Sydney · 19 August 2026
No engine oil — but the ZS EV still has five fluids that matter, and two of them are separate coolant circuits people routinely confuse: 4.8 litres for the power electronics and drive motor, and 4.4 litres for the high-voltage battery pack. All figures below are from the official owner’s manual (MY19, Technical Data p. 316).
The full table
| Fluid | Specification | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Power electronics / drive-motor coolant | Glycol (OAT) | 4.8 L |
| High-voltage battery pack coolant | Glycol (OAT) | 4.4 L |
| Reduction-gear (transmission) oil | Castrol BOT 351 LV | 1.3 L |
| Brake fluid | DOT 4 | 0.75 L |
| Washer fluid | MG-approved (ZY-VIII) | 4.0 L |
| A/C refrigerant | R1234yf | 540±20 g |
High-voltage boundary — read this. The battery-pack coolant circuit is part of the high-voltage system. Checking its level visually is fine; opening, draining or refilling it is not a DIY job and this site will never publish procedures for it — it requires an EV-qualified technician with the right isolation equipment. The same applies to anything behind orange connectors.
What owners can sensibly check
- Brake fluid — level and colour; DOT 4, change per schedule. Note EVs use brakes less, so moisture (not wear) drives the change interval.
- Washer fluid — top up freely.
- Coolant levels — look, don’t open. Low level in either circuit means a dealer/EV-specialist visit.
- Tyres — 230 kPa / 33 psi front and rear (cold), size 215/50 R17.
Facelift cars (2021–2024)
This page covers the 44.5 kWh launch version, from its own manual. The facelift (51.1 / 72.6 kWh) has differences in the cooling system — we will publish its figures from the corresponding manual rather than assume carry-over. Don’t apply this table to a facelift car.
