BYD in the Gulf — Twin Warranties, One Printed Battery Floor

Written and edited by Ethan Cole, Editor-in-Chief · ✓ Technically reviewed by Daniel Wei Chen — Senior Chinese Automotive Diagnostics & Repair Specialist, Sydney · 25 August 2026.

BYD’s Saudi (byd.sa) and UAE (byduae.ae) sites — both Al-Futtaim operations — publish textually identical warranties: 6 years / 150,000 km on the vehicle, and 8 years / 200,000 km on the battery and drive unit with a printed ≥70% capacity floor. That floor is the headline: it’s the only battery capacity threshold we found in any Gulf warranty text we verified — and BYD doesn’t print it in South Africa. Same company, different transparency.

The tier map

CoverTermNotes
Vehicle6 years / 150,000 kmThe lowest passenger-car km cap among the Gulf warranties we’ve verified
HV battery + drive unit8 years / 200,000 km≥70% capacity floor, in print
LED units / suspension4 years / 100,000 km
Multimedia / driver assistance / charge ports3 years / 60,000 km
12V battery — lithium6 years / 150,000 km
12V battery — lead-acid1 year / 20,000 km
The 12V asterisk: the Atto 3’s 12V battery gets 1 year / 20,000 km — while the rest of the range’s lithium 12V runs 6 years / 150,000 km, in the same warranty text. We’ve tracked BYD’s 12V family pattern in other markets; the Gulf prints it too. Buying an Atto 3? Read that line twice.

Why does the 70% floor matter?

A battery warranty without a capacity threshold covers failure; a warranty with one covers fading — measurably. BYD’s Gulf text prints ≥70%, which makes degradation a warranty conversation with a number in it. MG’s Gulf battery matches the 8-year / 200,000 km headline but prints no floor. Same headline; only one gives you a figure to hold a dealer to.

How often does a BYD need servicing?

EVs: first service at 1 year / 20,000 km, then every 12 months / 20,000 km. PHEVs: every 10,000 km / 12 months — half the EV distance between visits.

Prepaid service contracts — percentages without prices

Both sites advertise paid service contracts with printed discount rates — up to 45%, on terms up to 5 years / 100,000 km — and describe them as “fully transferable”. What neither site prints is a single price. A discount off an unpublished number is a shape, not a figure; get the actual quote in writing before you value the 45%.
