MG in the Gulf — One Warranty, Two Countries, a Short Calendar
MG publishes one warranty ecosystem for the whole Gulf: 72 months / 200,000 km on the vehicle in both Saudi Arabia (mg-sa.com) and the UAE (mg-uae.com), with a 96-month battery on top. The catch isn’t in the cover — it’s in the calendar: petrol and hybrid MGs need service every 10,000 km or 6 months, a third shorter than the same badge’s 15,000 km intervals in Australia. Long warranty, short leash.
What does the warranty actually cover?
| Cover | Term | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle — all passenger trims | 72 months / 200,000 km | Identical text, KSA and UAE |
| Commercial vehicles | 36 months / 120,000 km | |
| High-voltage battery (BEV / HEV / PHEV) | 96 months / 200,000 km | No capacity floor printed — see below |
| MG 8 PHEV battery | 96 months / 120,000 km | The one battery exception in the range |
How often does it need servicing? — the interval squeeze
ICE, HEV and PHEV: every 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first. Australia services the same badge every 15,000 km — the Gulf schedule is 33% shorter. With no service prices published on either Gulf site, interval length is the only cost signal MG gives you, and it points up. We’ve named MG’s cross-market arithmetic before — the unit trap on the ZS service tables — and the interval squeeze is its Gulf cousin. Budget for the extra visits; that calendar belongs in your negotiation.
BEVs invert the rule: 25,000 km or 12 months — two and a half times the petrol distance between visits.
Which wear items are covered — and for how long?
Unusually, the Gulf warranty text prints its own consumables schedule — most brands leave wear items to a vague exclusions clause. MG codifies them:
| Item | Covered for |
|---|---|
| Filters | 3 months / 10,000 km |
| Spark plugs | 3 months / 15,000 km |
| Brake pads | 6 months / 10,000 km |
| 12V battery | 1 year / 20,000 km |
| Shock absorbers | 3 years / 100,000 km |
Where is the battery capacity floor?
Nowhere. MG South Africa prints a 70% capacity floor on its 7-year / 200,000 km battery warranty; MG’s Gulf battery runs a year longer on paper — 96 months to South Africa’s 84, over the same 200,000 km — and prints no floor at all. The longer headline is the weaker promise: without a printed degradation threshold you have no number to hold a dealer to. Ask for the booklet’s wording before signing.
Owner’s manuals
Eleven direct PDF handbooks are published (media-hub-prod.mgmotor.me pattern), including models new to our archive: MG7, RX9, ONE, RAKAN, Cyberster and GT. That’s more first-party documentation than most rivals here manage.
What about service plans and pricing?
What does MG publish about service prices or prepaid plans in the Gulf? Nothing. Not a price, not a plan, in either country — the 10,000 km calendar is the only cost information on the record.
