MG HS Running Costs — Australia

✓ Technically reviewed by Daniel Wei Chen — Senior Chinese Automotive Diagnostics & Repair Specialist, Sydney, Australia · 19 August 2026.

Over its first five years an MG HS costs $2,091 (petrol) or $2,166 (Hybrid+ / Super Hybrid) in capped-price servicing. The bigger fork in the road is fuel: every HS requires RON 95, and official government figures span 5.2 L/100km (Hybrid+) to 9.5 L/100km (the old 2.0T AWD). And one fact the brochures blur: government data classifies the new Super Hybrid as a plug-in hybrid — 135 km of electric range, but only if you actually plug it in.

Gen-1 2.0T AWD (2021–24)9.5 L/100km≈ 1,425 L$2,780

*Australian Government Green Vehicle Guide (greenvehicleguide.gov.au, retrieved 19 August 2026). GVG’s annual cost assumes 14,000 km/year at last-quarter average retail fuel prices; litres-per-year is our arithmetic on the official figure at 15,000 km/year — both assumptions stated so you can rescale to your own mileage.

†The plug-in asterisk. The Super Hybrid’s 0.7 L/100km is a laboratory PHEV figure that assumes a charged battery (official electric range: 135 km; energy use 180 Wh/km). Never plug it in and your real consumption converges toward the ordinary hybrid’s — you paid for a battery you’re not using. The same applies to the Gen-1 PHEV (1.7 L/100km, 63 km range).

Warranty — Australia

10 years / 250,000 km new-car warranty with roadside assistance on current models — among the longest in the market. Cars sold before the current program keep the terms in force at purchase; other markets differ substantially — check your own documents.
