MG HS Oil Type, Capacity & Fluids

One number to remember: every 1.5T MG HS — first generation or second, manual, DCT, hybrid or plug-in — takes 4.0 litres of 0W-20 (ACEA C5) at an oil change. The second-generation 2.0T takes 4.8 litres of the same grade. That consistency is unusual and convenient; almost everything else below differs by variant, so check yours.
Engine oil
| Variant | Grade | Service-fill capacity |
|---|---|---|
| All 1.5T — both generations (MT, DCT, HEV, PHEV) | 0W-20, ACEA C5 (API SP listed in Gen-2 manuals) | 4.0 L |
| 2.0T (second generation) | 0W-20, ACEA C5 & API SP | 4.8 L |
Triple-sourced: G1 UK manual (2021, p. 341) · G2 UK Range manual (2025, p. 388) · Middle-East Hybrid manual (p. 387) — the two Gen-2 documents, from different markets, match line for line.

What we deliberately haven’t published: the Gen-2 hybrid variants have additional cooling circuits (intercooler, drive-motor electronics, and — on the PHEV — the traction battery). Their capacities appear in the manual’s table, but our text extraction could not attribute those rows to variants with certainty, and we don’t publish numbers we’re not certain of. They’ll be added after visual verification of the printed table. As always: anything touching the high-voltage battery circuit is not a DIY job.
