MG HS Oil Type, Capacity & Fluids

Technically reviewed by Daniel Wei Chen — Senior Chinese Automotive Diagnostics & Repair Specialist, Sydney · 19 August 2026

One number to remember: every 1.5T MG HS — first generation or second, manual, DCT, hybrid or plug-in — takes 4.0 litres of 0W-20 (ACEA C5) at an oil change. The second-generation 2.0T takes 4.8 litres of the same grade. That consistency is unusual and convenient; almost everything else below differs by variant, so check yours.

What we deliberately haven’t published: the Gen-2 hybrid variants have additional cooling circuits (intercooler, drive-motor electronics, and — on the PHEV — the traction battery). Their capacities appear in the manual’s table, but our text extraction could not attribute those rows to variants with certainty, and we don’t publish numbers we’re not certain of. They’ll be added after visual verification of the printed table. As always: anything touching the high-voltage battery circuit is not a DIY job.
